Hope in the Light Ministry developed gradually over many years, but God's direction was always evident.

God opened the door in 1990 for my husband and I to take our three children to Haiti where we would teach in an American school.  We looked forward to going on an adventure to a different country where we could experience a new culture.  We had no idea where that door would lead.  Before we left, our pastor gave us a going away gift, a huge family Bible with the inscription, "Be a Light in a dark country". We would understand that meaning years later.

After a wonderful experience teaching in Haiti, and our children having many life-changing experiences, we moved back to the United States. Lance and his two sisters finished their education.  After college, Lance was invited to return to Haiti to teach at a mission school. God quickly provided sponsors for his support, and he left for Haiti.  While teaching an adult English class, he met a sweet Haitian woman named Mona.  Her story is also on our website.  They fell in love and were married.  Over the next ten years, they worked together with many faithful sponsors and dedicated Haitian Christians to build a Christ centered ministry in Haiti. They were able to purchase land in the village of Boucan, establish a small ministry compound with an apartment, a main building and a school with eight classrooms.  Soon, they started inviting friends and neighbors into their home for Bible studies.  It quickly developed into their own church...Hope in the Light.

As Hope in the Light ministry expanded, we were able to provide medical clinics, revival church services, leadership training, and schooling.

During this time, Lance and Mona began their family.  Their daughter and son were born in Haiti and began school there.  Unfortunately, their son was diagnosed with autism and appropriate educational opportunities were not available in Haiti.  They returned to the U.S. but not before training a Haitian staff to continue the school and church. God provided and His work continues.

Today, God is still providing.  Recently, after many years as president, my husband, Ralph, turned the responsibility over to Megan Silver.  She and the board are working hard to keep things running smoothly.

What a privilege to see God's hand at work in the lives of His people and to witness the transforming power of His love.  We have experienced great joy over the years as we have watched God do His work in Haiti through Hope in the Light Ministry.  Little did we know God would put a great love in our hearts for the Haitian people.  Now, we understand what God revealed to our pastor many years ago--that an organization named Hope in the Light would be founded to bring, "Light to a dark country" and Jesus is that Light!
